Our Story

At McLeod, we're a family-owned business with a proud history dating back to 1995. Our blue cranes and white trucks are a familiar sight in the Bay of Plenty and increasingly throughout the central North Island, providing top-notch crane, hiab, transport, and drilling rig logistics services.

Our goal has always been to lead the industry, and this determination has driven our growth and earned us a reputation for absolute operational reliability and personalized service. Our three depots in Mt Maunganui, Hamilton, and Taupo serve customers in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions, and our reach extends even further to support customers' more distant needs.

Our values, centered on building and maintaining customer relationships, have remained unchanged since our establishment. They're reflected in our commitment to providing the highest level of customer service, which includes value for money, promptness, efficiency, and up-to-date equipment operated by highly skilled professionals.

Safety is always a top priority at McLeod, and this is reflected in our numerous awards, including being named Winners of the New Zealand Best Health and Safety Initiative for a Small Business in 2012 and finalists for industry leadership in 2014, 2015. Our team of experts is always ready to provide expert, trained, and experienced advice and guidance throughout all stages of your project.

With a long history of success, McLeod is managed by Scott McLeod, Peter McLeod, and Phil Hutchinson, who are proud to continue the traditions set by our founder, Curly McLeod, who passed away in 2012. We're committed to listening to our customers and constantly striving to exceed their expectations.

Ben Lehan

Tauranga Cranes Manager

Ben came to McLeod back in 2014 and is a success of our training programs.  With no crane qualifications, his background in building and construction aided his ability to come to grips with a cranes requirement onsite.  He gained his rigging certificates and then became a qualified crane operator.  He was the master of our Kato MR130 City Crane, before his natural progression into dispatch.  Now you will see him onsite as an Operations Supervisor.  He is committed to 100% customer service satisfaction.

Pearce O'Neill

Maintenance and Compliance Manager

It's no small job with over 200 items of plant.

But the Chief takes it in his stride. Pearce has a Royal New Zealand Navy background. An ideal training ground for managing the maintenance and compliance of a large fleet of vehicles.

Proud to have served on HMNZ Te Mana - on a recent tour of the ship it was hard to move with so much of the crew hassling him.  Clearly a well-respected oppo.

Jadwyn J

"After realising that my "spot" of where I wanted the spa placed was tucked into our back section, it was time to call the professionals...and at very short notice! Brian and Warrick came out to check out what would be the best solution. Slick work of getting into a tight spot. Would highly recommend the professional service of these guys. Thanks so much!"

Judy Dickie

“I cannot praise this company enough. Their communication was friendly and prompt. Their organization was impressive, they had to provide a crane at each end of the move, a skateboard truck, a dogman and traffic control and all of this went without a hitch. They worked as a great team, smoothly, with incredible skills.”
