Hey everyone,
We're excited to update you on our work with the Deep Dive Division on the Waikato River. As you may remember, we previously shared our involvement in the Beyond the Surface project, which aims to clean up and restore the river's health with the support of the Waikato River Authority.
Beyond the Surface
Since then, we've continued to collaborate with the Deep Dive Division, and they've released two episodes of their short TV series called Beyond the Surface - Salvage Edition.
Episode 1
Episode 1 shows Tua and the team prepping for a river restoration project by launching the Under Pressure vessel to identify key targets for salvage.
Episode 2
Meanwhile, Episode 2 gives us a glimpse of the reality of the project and its impact as the team resolves equipment issues and brings the first cars to the surface.
Our joint efforts have been focused on the Hamilton Gardens' Water Treatment Plant Area, a popular swim spot that's frequently visited by locals and tourists.
Despite warning signs, people jump dangerously close to submerged vehicles and other debris. This makes the area a high-priority site for cleanup. The Deep Dive Division's divers have faced considerable challenges, including low visibility, debris, sharp objects, and a strong 5-knot current. But with our contribution of a crane in-kind, we're helping the team to safely and efficiently extract the debris from the river.
Together, we're working hard to remove the following debris from the Hamilton Gardens site:
6 submerged vehicles
1-2 tonnes of metal debris
5 bikes
Several Lime scooters
A motorbike
We're proud to be part of this effort, which is a testament to the power of teamwork and shared goals. By combining our expertise in lifting with the Deep Dive Division's skills in diving and rigging, we're making significant strides in cleaning up the Waikato River for the benefit of all who call the region home.
We'll update you on our progress with the Deep Dive Division and the Beyond the Surface project. Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks for your continued support!
